We are now tackling the next level of learning. For our students to excel and compete in a digital world, they need access to computers. Before starting this program, we surveyed our 20 university students to determine the importance of having a laptop. They identified many needs, from attending virtual classes to Internet research to preparing homework and presentations. They were asked how difficult it would be to succeed in college without a laptop, and every student said it would be either extremely difficult or impossible.
IPA is beginning this program with laptop computers for qualified university students. The current population in our program is 40. We are also providing selected village schools with desktop computers for the classroom, with the possibility of adding Wi-Fi via cell phone towers for Internet access.
Donors contributing to the Technology Fund can designate their funds for laptop purchases, or for any approved purposes by the Fund.
IPA purchases basic-level Windows laptops of a durable brand for $215 each. IPA’s in-country Education Coordinator configures the systems and installs the approved educational software. Everything is in Spanish. Students pay a one-time $40 fee to participate in the program and they are instructed on the care and use of their laptops. The student is then off and running to enjoy a heightened educational experience.
Students keep their laptops if they graduate from college. Otherwise, they are returned for use by another deserving student.
The program includes repair services to fix laptops that have problems not caused by misuse.
Would you please consider making a tax-deductible contribution for one or more laptops at $215 each, however any donation amount is welcome.
You can make your contribution online by going to the link below or write a check payable to “IPA Foundation” with “Technology Fund” in the memo line. Then mail to: IPA Foundation, c/o Archer Halliday PS, 1621 Cornwall Ave., Bellingham, WA 98225.
Thank you so much for making a BIG difference in a student’s life.
